Cakes
We make our cakes as though we are competing with them. We use our champion recipes and proven techniques to provide you with the same flavors that the judges have experienced for over twenty years. Like our pies the cakes from 1ST AVE Bakery have a signature appearance. We adorn the tops of our cakes with edible art. Depending on the cake, a rose made from hand-crafted chocolate clay or leaves made of chocolate may decorate the top.
As a boutique bakery we specialize in making four varieties of cakes. The cakes we offer have been consistent winners for us and have been enjoyed by many friends, family and judges.
• Our Chocolate Raspberry Cake was the 1995 Hershey'®s Chocolate Cake, First Place winner at the Virginia State Fair. The recipe and photo were featured in the Washington Post-Food Section. Photo and Article link. This is a light chocolate cake with a pleasing flavor.
• Our Devils Food Cake has been been awarded First Place at the Virginia State Fair 11 times and "Best of Section" twice. If good Devils Food cake is your liking then let the judges results help you decide.
• The family favorite is our simple Yellow Cake with Chocolate Icing. A State Fair, First Place winner 5 times and County Grand Champion 3 times.
• Our most recent new cake recipe is for our Chocolate Hazelnut Cream Cake. This is a deep, dark, dense, moist cholocate cake matched with our Hazelnut Cream frosting. A 2007 Virginia State Fair-First Place winner in the Other Cake category and Second Place winner in the Best State Fair Cake contest. This is also the cake that won First Place in the 2005 Hershey's Chocoloate Cake Contest at the 2005 Loudoun County Fair when we matched it with our Dark Hershey's Chocolote Frosting.
We can mix and match cakes and frostings to create unique items based on your individual tastes and theme. We don't do traditional wedding cakes but have provided many variations of our cakes for weddings, birthdays and other special occasions or events. Chocolate Devil's Food Cake
Super Dark Chocolate Devil's Food Cake (pictured at competition with BoS ribbon) This cake is a twist on our traditional Devil's Food Cake recipe. This sinful cake is so dark and rich, the devil himself would be put to shame. Don't let its black color fool you; it may look as though the only way it could be that dark is if it was burnt, but it is actually the rich ingredients that give it that devilish black color.
